Aynsley qualified in 2000 from Glasgow Caledonian University and in 2011, she completed her PhD examining effects of home- versus hospital-based exercise training in chronic heart failure. She is a consultant physiotherapist in cardiology within NHS Ayrshire and Arran, and has worked as cardiac rehabilitation physiotherapist for 12 years.
Recently Aynsley led on a Scottish Government funded project to develop a patient-reported outcome measure (PROM) for cardiac rehabilitation. She is also currently evaluating a multi-morbidity rehabilitation programme within Ayrshire, and is doing a project on nurse-led inherited cardiac condition clinics. Aynsley teaches on the BACPR heart failure course and is an Ordinary Officer on BACPR council.
